Machu Picchu itself was like a puzzle, masterfully arranged on the cliffsides of two of the highest peaks. The entire national park is special on its own and the astounding ruins just catalpouts this into one of my most remarkable sites ever visitied.  The views over the Sacred Valley are breathtaking, with or without cloud coverage, obviously the former being preferred. Deep below the Urubamba River flows through the valley helping to provide an even more amazing looking scene.

Their intimate connection with nature is beautiful. I love how they were spiritually connected with the four elements of the earth but astronomy influenced much of their civilastion. This was clearly demonstrated in mind boggling ways in many of their stone constructions, like the Intihuatana stone. This stone functioned as their astronomical clock. The two largest sides of the Intihuatana stone are located 25.5° resp. 27.5° north of the western direction, hence, that they are directed at the points of the sunrise and sunset at the time of the solstices. That blew my mind. Their mastering of stone cutting was impressive (they didn’t need to use mortar), they simply cut stones to precisely, tightly fit together. They did this without any power tools or use of wheels. It was very difficult to understand how they moved very many of the larger rocks.

I learned that the three most symbolizing animals for the Incas are the condor, puma and serpiente. Some of which were symbolized in their rock formations. On the journey we encountered a cabybara, dozens of different breeds of dogs, beautiful exotic birds, domesticated jungle cats, llamas.

I feel blessed to have visited, overwhelmed by their mastery and empowered by their spirituality. May we continue to learn from nature and our ancestors as we venture into our respective, connected futures. Deeper into the abyss I wander.
